Another classic for sale on Audible!

My recording of Edith Wharton's Bunner Sisters went on sale on Audible yesterday via Listen 2 a Book.

Ann Eliza and Evelina Bunner are two unmarried sisters who own a small notions shop in a shabby section of New York City circa 1900. The older sister, Ann Eliza, buys a small clock for her sister's birthday from a tiny shop and meets the owner, a German immigrant named Herman Ramy. Once Mr. Ramy enters their lives, things begin to change in ways that neither sister could have imagined. What seems like a simple story is one of love, longing, selfishness, self-sacrifice, missed opportunities, and the unfairness of life for poor women, particularly those over 30 during this period.

Love the classics!

String Art for Valentine's Day

It seems like Christmas was just here but now Valentine's Day is just around the corner.  I always make something to send to my three nieces along with the expected M&Ms.  This year I decided to make something a little different.  After buying a cool string art piece last summer at an indie artist market (see this post here), I purchased a kit complete with instructions and supplies to dip my toe into this craft.

I had thought that I would work with wood and nails like the piece I purchased but that seemed a bit daunting for the first time so I went with a kit.  It's called "String Art by Klutz" and can be purchased here.  This kit is definitely for most ages (10 and up) so I figured I could handle it.

Naturally, I wanted to make heart pics for Valentine's Day and there was a nice array of background papers and string colors to choose from.  It was definitely easy and enjoyable.  After this, I feel like I could actually try something with wood that's a bit more ambitious, but these were fun.  I hope the girls like them.
